Our principals, Peter Laidlaw and Chris Newlan, have been behind a number of high profile and successful communications campaigns which have resulted in their clients enjoying improved regulatory environments, increases in sales, improved shareholder value and productivity improvements.

Peter Laidlaw

Peter has almost 20 years’ experience in the communications industry.

He has worked as a senior journalist, marketing communications executive, media advisor to a former government environment minister, a senior consultant for leading public relations agencies in Australia and the United Kingdom, corporate relations manager and a senior public relations executive for major corporations and industry groups.

As a consultant, Peter has assisted a number of blue chip corporations and small start up companies influence regulation, reposition themselves with stakeholders, enhance reputation, launch new brand and products and manage media.

In addition to holding senior consulting positions, Peter has held senior public relations positions with the London Housing Unit, Australian Hotels Association, the State Chamber of Commerce NSW and one of Australia’s largest corporations, Telstra.

Chris Newlan

Chris has more than 13 years experience in the media and public relations industry in Australia. He has worked as a journalist, political advisor, lobbyist and senior corporate affairs executive at a major Australian corporation.

Chris spent a number of years working for News Limited in Sydney before taking on a position as principal advisor and press aecretary for a senior NSW Shadow Minister and Opposition Leader.

Following his stint in the NSW Parliament, Chris joined the commercial property industry’s peak lobby group, the Property Council of Australia, as its director of public affairs, where he was responsible for developing communication and lobbying campaigns to support the association’s policy objectives.

Prior to joining Lighthouse Communications Group, Chris held a number of senior communications positions with Telstra Corporation, including media manager for its mobile phone division, Head of Corporate Affairs for business and government and Head of External Public Relations.

John Hanrahan

John has more than 25 years experience in daily newspapers in Australia, the UK and US, business magazines, television production and reporting, and corporate public relations and advertising.

For eight years he was the Senior Reporter and Producer for the Nine Network’s national Small Business Show. Prior to that he was Editor of Dynamic Business Magazine. He has also worked for John Fairfax and Sons, News Limited, Channel Seven and The ABC.

His experience includes managing an Australia/US television company and corporate communications companies.

For the Nine Network he reported on business across Australia and from European trade shows (CeBIT, BioTechnica) and Silicon Valley in the US. While at the Nine Network, he created and managed both the National Small Business Software Awards and the Business Website Awards.

As well as a wide range of business writing skills, he is also experienced in business website content development and search engine optimisation, and media training.

Tony Park

Tony has over 20 years experience in media, government, issues management, public relations and media and communications training. 

He has worked as a newspaper journalist in Sydney and the United Kingdom; served as a press secretary to former NSW Premier and former State Government Ministers for Health, Police and Justice; and managed the NSW office of a leading international public relations firm.

He has a wealth of experience in dealing with the media in relation to positive publicity and contentious situations and is an experienced writer and author of four books.

Duncan Bone

With a background in journalism and the Federal Press Gallery, Duncan has more than seven years experience carrying out wide-ranging communications campaigns for government departments and agencies, hospital groups and corporate employers.

Following his stint at The Age, Duncan started his public affairs career in the Federal Government by joining the Federal Department of Health and Aging, where he oversaw the rural health communication campaign across Australia.

He then worked in the UK for four years as the deputy director of communications for a large public hospital group, where his team was awarded the “Gold Standard” by the Strategic Health Authority for a public consultation campaign that reached out to over 1.6 million people.

He returned to Australia in 2008 to work in media relations with a variety of corporate and government clients, including NSW Health, PwC and the RTA.

Julie Sheather

Julie is an experienced media and issues manager, communications adviser and media trainer.

Julie has worked as a journalist, government press secretary and public affairs director for some of Australia’s largest listed entities including Macquarie Bank, CUSCAL/ABACUS and a number of leading ASX listed blue-chip organisations.

Her experience includes managing the reputation of her employers and the outcomes of various court cases and parliamentary inquiries. Julie has undertaken major corporate positioning programs and helped her clients achieved financial and regulatory outcomes both in Australia and overseas.

Alicia Aldini

Alicia has five years agency experience undertaking public relations campaigns in the technology, business and consumer space in Australia and the United Kingdom.

As a public relations consultant, she has worked across several global corporate accounts to build experience in a variety of PR, marketing and communications functions, including media relations, event management and issues management.

Throughout her career Alicia has worked on several large scale media campaigns and press events for companies including Dell, Panasonic and VMware.
